Enhanced parental leave means more precious moments you won't miss

I’m pleased to announce exciting enhancements to our parental leave of absence program that provide more time for parents and children to bond in those precious early months. Lam’s commitment to Inclusion and Diversity as a Core Value shows up in many ways. One area of focus is delivering impactful benefits to expecting parents. Welcoming a child to the family, through birth, adoption, or foster care placement, is a special and memorable part of life, and we want to support you in making the most of this special time.

The following enhancements are effective Sept. 1, 2021:

  • Birth mothers are generally eligible for 6 months (26 weeks) of paid leave. For a normal pregnancy, birth mothers can receive 26 weeks of paid leave through a combination of 10-week pregnancy disability and our enhanced 16-week parental leave (previously 12 weeks). Disability leave can begin 4 weeks before the due date and will be paid at 75% of base pay (up from 70%) and payments will not be taxed. Parental leave will continue to be paid at 100% of base pay and those payments will be taxed.
  • All parents eligible for 4 months (16 weeks) of parental leave. All parents welcoming a new child to the family through birth, adoption, or foster care placement will be eligible for the new 16 weeks of paid parental leave (up from 12 weeks) at 100% of base pay with applicable taxes. Intermittent parental leave can be taken in minimum increments of one week at a time, and all leave must be completed within 1 year.
  • Disability payments for all covered disabilities paid at 75% of base pay with no waiting period. Disability payments will increase to 75% of your base pay (up from 70%) for all covered disability leaves, including maternity and recovering from an illness or injury. These payments are not taxed, and will be effective on the first day of disability with no waiting period.
  • As a reminder, employees are required to provide at least 30 days’ notice for all leave requests, when foreseeable.

Lam is committed to supporting our employees with meaningful benefits that make a positive impact and enable a better work life balance. We begin this new benefit with our U.S. employees with a commitment to extend this to all employees around the world in 2022.
